The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference organized a seminar on Legal literacy at Aliba village in collaboration with Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA).

Limatongzuk Longkumer, President, Ongpangkong Students’ Conference in his address said that the seminar was organized with an aim to impart legal knowledge to the youth in the villages. He thanked the MDLSA for giving their time and resources and further informed that the OKM is ready to conduct and organize such seminars as and when the villages in the Ongpangkong range requests or requires.

The two resource persons from the MDLSA were Bendangsenla, para-Legal volunteer and Mapujungla, Panel Lawyer, MDLSA. Bendangla spoke on the Consumers Protection Act 2019 where she highlighted the key points of the Act and explained the importance and relevance of the act in the present age. She opined that many consumers neglect the Act due to lack of awareness and because of laziness.

Mapujungla, while presenting at the seminar gave a brief introduction about the legal services authority and highlighted the importance of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, Narcotic Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986. She also informed the audience about the importance of Lok Adalat and how people should take advantage of the opportunities to settle cases during Lok Adalats. The programme was moderated by Soyimkumba, President, Aliba Students’ Union, Aliba village, Mokokchung.
