Dimapur, February 12 (MExN): District Level Seminar on Right to Education was organized by District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Chiechama on February 11 at the Institute of World Language, Kohima. A press note received here said that Vipralhou Kesiezie, Director, SCERT: Nagaland, Kohima and Sentinaro Longchar were the resource persons.
The morning session was chaired by Tony, Lecturer DIET, Chiechama where ‘Right to Education Act 2009’ was presented by Vipralhou Kesiezie, Director; SCERT. The highlights of the Act were on Provision of the Act; The Right to Free and Compulsory Education; Duties of Appropriate Government, Local Authority and Parents; Responsibilities of Schools and Teachers; Curriculum and Completion of Elementary Education; Protection of Right of Children; and Norms and Standards for a School.
The presentation of the Act was followed by discussion on various areas covered 25% Reservation of Children in Private Schools; no Board Examination for Completion of Elementary Education; Prohibition of Private Tuition by Teachers; Admitting a Child to Class Appropriate to his/her age and Collection of Admission Fees.
The afternoon session was chaired by Imlikokla, Sr. Lecturer where Sentinaro Advocate, Youth Net presented on “Legal Implications on RTE.” Such as- Section 5: Right to transfer to other Schools; Section 13 (2) b: No Capitation Fee and Screening Procedures for Admission; Section 18 (5) and 19 (5): Norms and Standards for School; Section 24: Duties of Teachers and Redressal of Grievances; Section 32: Redressal of Grievances of Child Rights; were highlighted followed by interactive session.
The programme started with a welcome address by Kezhalenuo Principal DIET, Chiechama and Dr. Nokrenchila Sr. Lecturer pronounced the vote of thanks. The participants of the seminar were the SIS and Head Teachers under Kohima districts and the DIET faculties.
