Dimapur, April 1 (MExN): The Naga People’s Organization continues to reiterate that the Manipur government machineries are manipulating census figures of the tribal populations in Senapati district. The organization has demanded a new census exercise. The committee has warned of ‘consequences’ if the administrations does not heed.
The NPO’s Committee on Census 2011 expressed strong resentment over what it called “intentional manipulative errors” committed by the Senapati district administration in the on-going Biometrics process.
“This incident has come to light, basing on the final print of facts and copies of the ‘acknowledgment receipt’ of the bio-metrics issued by the official/staff in respect of Makhrelui village,” stated a note from the organization’s committee. Questioning the “hidden designs and motives behind such act”, the committee has complained to the Deputy Commissioner, also the District Principal Operation Census. The committee has demanded immediate cancellation of the ongoing process and restarting newly. The NPO has also asked the DC to book the culprit at the earliest,
“It is most unfortunate, that a district administration under the present DC in collaboration with some anti-people element tried to divert a Naga village to some irrelevant village names like Makhrelui bollen Kuki, Viewland Bollen Kuki etc. The general public has been actively co-operating with the process till date, but such incident has jeopardized the whole exercise. Therefore, such hidden agenda of instigating Communal tension in the district is highly uncalled for in maintain peaceful atmosphere among different communities.”
The committee also condemned “the arrogant and indifferent attitude of the DC who has till today not submitted the 2nd Phase Census documents to the concerned authorities”. Such unjustifiable behaviors of a bureaucrat cannot deny the ‘rightful place of a bonafide citizen in the on-going Census operation,’ the committee stated.
The deputy commissioner is asked to intervene into the “biometrics issue” at the earliest and initiate fresh exercise. It also demands the 2nd Phase Census report in respect of Senapati district be submitted at the earliest. “Failing to respect the above grievances, the committee will not be responsible for any consequences in the future,” the note added.
