Senior member of Jain community passes away

Dimapur, August 26 (MExN): One of the senior most members of the Jain and Marwari Community Chiranjilal Patni passed away on August 15. He was 91.

According to a press statement from late Patni’s grandson in law Rajesh Sethi, the last rites will be performed on August 27 at Jain Temple and his Kalibari residence. 

Late Patni settled in Kohima with his parents when he was 5 years old and grew up in the Naga Hills. His family shifted to Dimapur during WWII.

“He was a businessman, entrepreneur, industrialist, philanthropist, and an enthusiastic world traveler, among many other roles,” the statement added.

Patni made several donations to the community in his lifetime. The meeting hall of the Jain Bhawan in Dimapur, statue of Lord Pushpadant Nath to the Jain Mandir in Dimapur and foundation stone for the construction of the school building in Mahavir Sthal, Dimapur, in 2018 are some of his donations, besides other donations to temples in Assam and West Bengal.  

He was also one of the Trustees in Bharatvarshiya Digamber Jain Dharam Sanrikshni Mahasabha.

His wife Shanti Devi Patni passed away in 2003. Patni is survived by his three daughters and two sons.
