Kohima, May 9 (MExN): In pursuance of the Common Minimum Action Plan of NSLSA for the month of May 2025, the Phek District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with District Administration under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mission Shakti Phek, organised a sensitisation programme on POSH Act 2013 with District Heads of Departments at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Phek on May 9.
While delivering the keynote address, Rhosietho Nguori, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, Mission Shakti Phek, stated that the issue of sexual harassment is a sensitive issue where some instances is starting to arise at workplace in Government department in Nagaland.
He appreciated the departments which have formed the internal complaint committee and further directed those departments which have not constituted the committee to constitute the same.
The resource speaker Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS, District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson, Phek DLSA, spoke on the POSH Act 2013 through PPT.
She focused on the role and responsibilities of the HoDs as employers under the POSH Act and monitoring over the Internal Complaints Committee. She highlighted that sexual harassment results in violation of Articles 14, 15, 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India and explained the purpose of the Act which provides protection to women against sexual harassment at workplace and for its prevention and redressal.
She explained about the manner of conducting enquiries whenever a complaint is filed and the penalty for non compliance of the Act. She also highlighted the powers of the District Officer and the Local Complaints Committee.
The programme was chaired by Vethothi Vero, Retainer Lawyer, Phek DLSA. He highlighted the Legal Services Authority Act 1987and the role and functions of Phek DLSA. He also highlighted the brief history of the Vishaka case and outcome of the POSH Act 2013.
