KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 3 (MExN): The Kohima District Administration in collaboration with District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Kohima held an Orientation and Sensitization Programme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao on November 3 at D Block Panchayat Hall.
The keynote address was given by Moasunep K Jingru, EAC Kohima, Nodal Officer, Mission Shakti. He gave a brief introduction of the BBBP scheme and urged the society not to discriminate between boys and girls and said that girls are also no less. He further stated that girls should empower themselves and help break down the stereotypical gender roles in society.
Nagali Shohe, Advocate cum Panel Lawyer, Kohima DLSA highlighted the various laws and acts pertaining to the girl child like POCSO Act, sexual offences, right to education, child marriage and child labour. She spoke on the different ways through which a victim of the above crimes can get legal remedies.
Dr Vijoho, Medical Officer, Jakhama gave a brief explanation on ‘Sexual Health, Menstrual Health and Mental Health.’ He talked about the social and cultural taboos connected to these three issues and how to overcome it. He also emphasized on the dangers of early pregnancy and the issue of anxiety and depression in women.
Toli K Assumi, Centre Administrator, OSC, Kohima highlighted the One Stop Centre scheme by emphasizing on the issues faced by women and girls like domestic violence, sexual assault, cyber crimes and rape. She stated the various services through which women and girls can avail under OSC, like- lodging FIR, legal assistance, medical care, counseling and temporary shelter. She further stated that any women or girls can avail these services through the following numbers, Childline- 1098, 181 and 112 for emergency cases.
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Scheme was highlighted by Vimenu Richa, DEO for PMMVY, DHEW, Kohima. She explained at length the objectives of the scheme, who can apply, documents required and where to apply.
The programme was chaired by Vikeduozo Sorhie, Gender Specialist, DHEW, Kohima while the vote of thanks was given by Bodin Pradan, Joint Secretary, D Block Panchayat. Innvocation was given T.P Thapa, Kharazu Christian Revival Church.
