September Joint Accord a ‘breath of fresh air,’ says NTCA

Dimapur, September 18 (MExN): The Nagaland Theological College Association on Sunday stated that the September Joint Accord between the Working Committee, Naga National Political groups (NNPGs) and the NSCN (IM) has come as ‘a breath of fresh air’ to Naga people’s ‘redundant political debacle.’

“It promises realistic solution to our existing apathy, and infuses hope and dignity to the Nagas as people,” it said in a press release on September 18.

The NTCA stated that more than ever, Nagas today are in need of visionary and compassionate leaders who can lead with a sense of purpose, dignity and belongingness. “Everyday Nagas’ lives are impacted by the decisions made by our leaders. Lately, Nagas have been consumed by the agenda of upcoming election. Many people are lobbying for their candidates; and yet a dark cloud of uncertain and capricious politics appears to loom large over the minds of the Naga people,” it said.

It also noted that there have been a lot of groups voicing out for solution and not election and even the State Government is vouching for the sentiment of solution first. “All these activities are nothing new to the Nagas and if we go by what has happened in the past it appears like the Nagas are still stuck in a vicious circle,” it said.

However, “With this signing of accordant there is every reason for the Nagas to be hopeful for a real solution,” it stated.

As one of the banners of Naga Christians, the NCTA acclaimed the signing of agreement between the groups. “We acknowledge the courage to take risk by both the political groups in order to come to this agreement. We understand that you have taken the decision to prioritize the Naga people and their destiny without letting your differences and ego consume us. We see in your decision a true character of statesmanship and are encouraged and deeply moved by your leadership,” it added.

“We can envisage that India now will not have the luxury to freely play around with the Nagas and create fragmentation in our society at their will,” it said, while maintaining that “India has been controlling us at the expense of our divisions, which ironically has been inflicted by India herself.”

However, with this signing of agreement Nagas are hopeful that there will be a positive turn in the history of Nagas. “We are committed to such positive statesmanship and we vow to support you,” it added.
