Barely two-day after the announcement of election to 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the Congress Party’s campaign suffered a serious jolt with the resignation of veteran leader and former Chief Minister KL Chishi from “all level of the Indian National Congress” (INC).

In a terse letter to addressed to President, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) justifying and tendering his resignation, Chishi cited “trust deficit inspite of repeated submission and advice to the appropriate authority of INC for the last one year…”

As a result, he said, “I cannot continue to remain in the INC anymore.”

He also told the President that he is resigning from “party responsibilities” and from the primary membership of the Party with “immediate effect.”

Sources at NPCC confirmed the same but refused to divulge the reason, if any. While it was not immediately known whether he would join another party, it was informed that Chishi will address a press conference on January 21 regarding the issue.   Chishi’s resignation is a massive blow for Congress as it starts from the scratch after all its elected legislators in 12th NLA deserted the party. He was also part of an eight-member coordination committee recently formed by the Congress President Rahul Gandhi for the Nagaland Assembly election.

In 2013, Chishi unsuccesfully fought the election from Dimapur-I Assembly Constituency in an INC ticket. Another NPF MLA resigns

Vikho-o Yhoshu, an MLA of the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) and Advisor to the Chief Minister for Mechanical Engineering & Chairman NSMDC with cabinet status, has resigned from the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

Yhoshu tendered his resignation from the membership of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in a letter to the Speaker on January 20. Similar letters sent to Chief Minister’s Office and the NPF President, started circulating in social media on Saturday.   While he did not mentioned his reason behind his resignation, sources informed that he might joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in the coming days. His resignation followed that of former Home Minister Y Patton on January 9 who later joined Bharatiya Janata Party.

Yhoshu contested and won last the election from Southern Angami-I Assembly Constituency.   Till the filing of the report, there were no official statement from the Assembly, CMO and the NPF party regarding the resignation.
