SETs were wrongly victimized over IEDSS fund misuse: SETAN

DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (MExN): The Special Teachers Association (SETAN) on Saturday said the education department wrongly victimized the Special Education Teachers (SETs) by terminating their services in the light of the misappropriation of funds belonging to Inclusive Education for the Disabled at Secondary Stage (IEDSS) scheme.

According to the Nagaland Vigilance Commission, IEDSS fund to the tune of Rs 5 crore were misappropriated by six persons which includes 4 government officials, a former minister and his son.

“The department has wrongfully victimized the teachers for the fault of the erring officials by serving termination orders to all of the genuine 360 teachers on August 2016 with 6months salary still pending,” SETAN stated in a press release.

With the scheme (IEDSS) under suspension owing to the misappropriation scam, SETAN also maintained that failure on part of the government will result in complete stoppage of the scheme which will be a grave injustice to all the differently-able students of Nagaland.

It also pointed out that it is unlawful and illegal on the part of department to terminate the SETs as long as the scheme exists as the appointment order clearly states that the post is co-terminus with the scheme/project.

In this connection, SETAN has expressed hope that the new government and the new education minister will intervene and ensure that justice prevails.
