DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 16 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya on Friday called on students of various colleges from Kohima to share their knowledge to help and develop the society. The Governor was addressing a meeting cum get together with college students from Kohima at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
Stating that youth had the choice to do and undo what they wanted for their future and Nagaland, Governor Acharya advised the students not to be self centred but share their knowledge for the welfare and development of the society.
‘Be an asset to the society’ he stated. He opined that the Government sector has reached a saturation point and it was impossible to recruit every educated youth of the State and therefore encouraged the students to take up entrepreneurship. Various welfare schemes have been made available by the Central Government to help entrepreneurs establish, the Governor added.
Governor Acharya said that educational institutions should also open up the minds of the students and skill development programmes should be implemented in all colleges. He said that the Nagaland University (NU) and the 66 colleges affiliated under the University should focus and identify necessary skills requirements in the State and should introduce the programmes accordingly.
The Governor also said that the goal of the educational institutions should not only be to impart knowledge but to also make the students stand on their feet. He instructed the NU to implement the skill development programmes at the earliest in all colleges in Nagaland.
Principal Secretary to Governor, Piyush Goyal said the main purpose of the interaction session was to have information about constraints faced with regard to infrastructure facilities, mode of teaching and other welfare activities for both faculty and student community.
Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof. Pardeshi Lal said NU was offering various courses in different disciples in the University and college levels and expressed eagerness to introduce skill development programmes in all colleges. He stated that it was mandatory to introduce the courses in all colleges. The VC however opined that the colleges should also implement practical classes along with theory with regard to the skill development programmes.
Prof. Pardeshi Lal also mentioned that with the introduction of Swayam and Swayamprabha programmes, students could choose more skill based courses.
Various colleges highlighted on activities with regard to skill development courses introduced in their colleges and how it has benefited students. Kohima Science College said that under Swayam, the institution has identified 30 courses and will be starting from the new academic session.
Japfu Christian College also stated that the college has introduced piggery and bee keeping amongst other programmes which have been beneficial to the students. Oriental College informed that the institution was implementing skill development training to the students and will be introducing skill development programmes in the coming academic session. A total number of 17 colleges from Kohima attended the meeting.
