DIMAPUR, JANUARY 5 (MExN): Organizers of Gabharoo festival informed on Tuesday that they are contemplating of extending the proposed Gabharoo Festivity-2016 to both the ‘hills’ and ‘plains’ area with the objective of enhancing the mission of Border Peace Coordination Committee (A-N) which uphold that sports and cultural assimilations of the bordering people are effective ways of peace coordination.
This comes as an encouraging development because since its institution, the celebration of Gabharoo Festivity was otherwise confined only to the ‘plains’ sector, a press statement from BPCC (A-N) president BP Bora informed.
The announcement was made during a joint peace sitting convened by Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture & Chairman NSAMB, Dr Benjongliba Aier along with members from BPCC (Assam-Nagaland), key members of Gabharoo festival organizing committee, representatives from Rankham village area, Assam and council members of Yajang-C village.
However, in order to uphold the Gabharoo Tourism Festivity Project for brokering peace, immediate blessings of the elected representatives of the Mariani and Alongtaki Legislative Assembly Constituencies followed MP of Nagaland and MP of Jorhat, Chief Ministers of both the States and District Administrations of Jorhat and Mokokchung districts was required so that the project is able to draw essential attentions in mitigating future conflicts if any in a meaningful way, the organizers felt.
Gabharoo Festivity-2016 is scheduled during third week of March at Gabharoo, a small hamlet in the border under Selenghat block in Jorhat district, situated in a scenic area bordering with Lirmen and Yajang village of Mokokchung district of Nagaland.
All the neighbouring Naga villages situated in the border belt of Alongtaki Assembly constituency of Mokokchung district are expected to partake in the proposed festival for peace. Nagaland parliamentary secretary for agriculture, Dr Benjongliba Aier and Assam parliamentary secretary (Power) Rupjyoti Kurmi are expected to be patron in the proposed Gabharoo Festivity-2016.
