DIMAPUR, MARCH 27 (MExN): Member of Parliament, W Wangyuh Konyak said that Self Help Groups was one way for the people of Nagaland to gain employment in the present scenario of stretched jobs in the public sector. Speaking at the inaugural function of the Workshop on Capacity Building for Sustainable Development at Dimapur Tourist lodge today, the MP said that a person could make a good enough living in the SHGs without troubling anyone and unlike the government servants, would not be pushed around by politicians. He further urged the participants of the two-day workshop to make use of the ample fund available in CAPART and also to show performance in the works taken up without producing fictitious proposals.
The two-day Workshop which was organized by the Nagaland Children’s Home and sponsored by CAPART was attended by some 40 delegates from different districts of Nagaland. Earlier in the function, the welcome address was given by the Chairman Board of Director, Nagaland Children’s Home, SK Kenye and a special number was presented by Christian Mission School Diphupar, Dimapur. The Member Convenor R.C CAPART of North East Zone, Gitanjalee also gave a brief highlight on the workshop and expressed that the Morung and Village Council set-up of Nagaland and the religious unity of the people provided an ideal framework for implementing the rural development works. Gitanjalee added that Nagaland had immense natural resources inspite of lacking in Industry and the people of the state should highlight its positive points and develop on it.
The resource persons of the workshop were Dr. J. Longkumer, Lecturer Dept. of Agriculutral Extension, SASRD Medziphema Campus; Amarjeet Singh, Monitor CAPART NE Zone; Gitanjalee, Member Convenor RC CAPART NE Zone; L. Meru, Field Officer CASA, and Johny Rengma, Member Convenor CAPART.
The highlights of the inaugural session included welcome address by S.K. Kenya, Chairman BoD, Nagaland Children’s Home Diphupar and highlighting of the workshop by Gitanjalee.
The second day was marked with a talk on “Empowering the Masses: Role of Village Councils and VDBs in Nagaland” and expositions on “CAPART Scheme Management” and “Accountability and Project Formulation”. The workshop wound up with Group Exercise and Presentation Evaluation and Follow-up.
