SHGs from villages under Wokha Forest Division undertake exposure visit

Wokha | October 8

A group of 34 members from Self Help Groups (SHGs) representing Yanthanro, Makharung, Mmhayan, Thenhyayan, and Ronren villages under Wokha Forest Division jurisdiction recently participated in a capacity building and exposure visit to the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre in Dimapur. 

It was followed by a farm-based visit to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) National Research Centre in Medziphema, as part of the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya, Nagaland (FBMP) project.

The visit, took place on October 3 and 4 last, aiming to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in sustainable agricultural practices, entrepreneurship, and community development. This initiative is supported by Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya, Nagaland (FBMP) project, co-financed by Federal Republic of Germany through KfW (German Development Bank) which focused on the following key activities: Exposure to innovative bamboo cultivation and processing techniques at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Hands-on training in entrepreneurship and business planning, Interactive sessions with experts from ICAR, focusing on climate-resilient agriculture and value chain management and Networking opportunities with fellow SHG members and stakeholders.

The group was led by Elithung Odyuo, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Wokha Forest Division, alongside Abeno Ovung, Planning and Livelihood Expert, Wokha DMU, Renjano Odyuo, Finance cum Office Manager for FBMP-KfW, and Ethel Odyuo, Team Leader of Natural Nagas FNGO.
