'SHGs should be nodal agents to strengthen society'

Kohima, May 21 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya held an interactive meet with Nagaland Rural Livelihood Mission SHG Members and SVEP entrepreneurs of the State represented by the SHG members of Jakhama Block on May 21 at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima.  

According to a press release issued by PRO to Governor, he encouraged the SHGs to review their situation and to come up with ideas on how to strengthen the society and added that sincerity to ones goal and one’s self is the first step to success. He said all SHGs should be the nodal agents to strengthen the society.  

The Governor further explained that India belongs to the villages and if villages prosper India will shine and with that in mind the Central and State Governments have introduced various welfare programmes for the benefit of the villages. He called on the SHGs to avail the different schemes and programmes to strengthen themselves and to also inform the other villages of the various welfare programmes. He also said that SHGs should be the pillars for not only strengthening the economy but the society also.  

Governor Acharya also congratulated the Pete Village Level Organisation, Kezoma for receiving the Best VLO National Award 2018 and stated that it a great achievement not only for the Village Level Organisation but for the State as well.  

The programme was chaired by COO and Skills, NSRLM, Menuoneituo Chadi. He stated that 515 villages in 29 Blocks under 9 Districts in Nagaland were under intensive implementation under NRLM.  

Additional Secretary RD & Mission Director, NSRLM, Athel O Lotha delivered the welcome address while a folk tune was presented by the Khuzuma Entrepreneurs. An interactive session was also held where the SHGs highlighted on the need for setting up of marketing sheds and proper public toilets. National Awardee 2018, Pete VLO, Kezoma made a presentation on the various activities carried out by them.
