Shooting innocents an insult, states NSF

Dimapur, May 2 (MExN): A deeply shaken Naga Students’ Federation today expressed vehement anger and censure at the “mistaken identity” shooting, this time two senior student leaders, in the heart of Dimapur today by “unidentified gunmen”.  Pointing to the deep fear that has come to haunt  the hearts of innocent public members from such “mistaken identity” shootings, the Naga students apex has made it very clear that it is not going to tolerate any more such attempts to murder.  

The speaker of the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) Bento Swu and former president of the Kiphire District Sumi Students’ Union, Atoka N Chophy, were shot and critically injured when they were shot by gunmen near Breeze Restaurant in Dimapur today. They are said to have been referred to Guwahati Hospital.

The NSF was vehement in its censure at the “senseless action of the culprits”. “The Naga students’ community takes this act as an insult which is totally intolerable. The NSF seeks justice from the law and order agencies to ensure immediate reaction into the matter. In all seriousness, the NSF warns any individual or group against attempting to murder the Naga student’s leaders,” the NSF said in a sharp statement received here evening. 

The federation said “such acts” are a “risky deal” to the future lives of the general public ‘because the lives and the future of the public will be nowhere’ if the lives of social leaders are kept at risk. The NSF has demanded that “the case must be properly addressed and make known to the Nagas”. The federations also urge the state’s law and order agencies to wake up with immediate action to deliver befitting punishment to the culprits for the safety and security of the Naga people at the earliest.

“The senseless and inhuman action of the culprits will never be taken lightly under any circumstances. Until justice is delivered, the NSF cannot effort to rest. In case, if any cadres of any Naga factions are involved, the highest authorities must give explanation to the incident and give befitting and exemplary punishment to the perpetrators whatsoever” the NSF added. The federation expresses deep sorrow and anger at the “mistaken identity” shooting and has wished speedy recovery to the critically injured students’ leaders.
