Wokha, August 14 (MExN): Resenting the multiple orders to enforce shop closure by different institutions, the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WDCCI) on Saturday expressed displeasure that the public have continually witnessed undesirable phenomenon of closing down shops for various reasons by various parties “as though doing so will solve any political or social problems in our society.”
In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, the government has deemed it necessary to close down business establishments intermittently to break the chain of transmission. “We complied whole heartedly since we believed it was with good intent and for a good cause,” WDCCI, President, Renpithung Kikon said in a press release.
However, the chamber highlighted that business owners whether big or small, depend on the daily income from their shops to run their homes and needs. If one is to estimate in terms of hours and income lost on any particular day of shop closure, the amount will surely be staggering. “And we can rest assure that nobody is going to compensate the traders for their losses incurred for even a day,” it stated.
Unless somebody comes up with a brilliant plan to enforce closure of shops and still prevent loss to traders or find an ingenious way to compensate them, WDCCI suggested, ‘it is best to avoid the habit of closure of shops’ and any institution must think twice before giving random order to close shops without a valid rhyme or reason since doing so is not the “be-all and end-all” to every problem.
Therefore, WDCCI appealed to “every concerned party not to resort to closing down shops for petty reasons and give assurance that its office will cooperate in closing down shops if it is for any justified cause or reason.”
