Sikkim Governor reviews progress of Sivok-Rangpo Railway Line

Maligaon, October 13 (MExN): Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur on [Day of Week] inspected the strategically important Sivok-Rangpo Railway Line project at Khanikhola to review its ongoing progress, a press statement said.

The Governor was accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Dr Indra Hang Subba, Pakyong District Collector Rohan A, and other officials during the visit to the site in Rangpo under Pakyong district.

During the inspection, senior officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and IRCON International Limited briefed the Governor on the project's status, the statement said.

A detailed presentation was given by NFR General Manager (Construction) Arun Kumar Chaudhary and IRCON CMD Hari Mohan Gupta, who apprised the Governor of the progress, including the nearing completion of 14 tunnels and 23 bridges, while also outlining various challenges affecting the pace of work.

In his address, the Governor emphasized that the railway project will play a transformative role in boosting tourism, strengthening national security, and fostering industrial development and employment opportunities in the state.

He described the project as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for enhanced connectivity in the Northeast.

The 45-kilometre-long Sivok-Rangpo Railway Line — with 41.5 km in West Bengal and 3.5 km in Sikkim — will connect the Himalayan state to the national railway network for the first time.

The Governor expressed confidence in its timely completion and reaffirmed his full support to the NFR and all agencies involved in realizing this vital infrastructure project.
