Singing competition marks World Disability Day

Morung Express News Kohima | December 3   The World Disability Day, jointly organised by Nagaland Parents Association for Disable (NAPAD) and Social Welfare Department, Government of Nagaland was held on December 3 at Highland Park, near IG Stadium Kohima.   Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change graced the occasion as the chief guest while Keweu Inakhe, Addl. Director, Social Welfare was the guest of honour.   A singing competition was also held during the celebration where Jo Foundation School bagged the first prize, G. Rio School in the second position and Tabitha Enabling Centre in the third position.   Lauding the parents for the efforts in bringing up their differently abled children, Keweu also cited stories of renowned personalities such as Thomas Edison and Stephen Hawkings, stating that somewhere their parents nurtured and encouraged them despite the stigma.   Dr. Nicky Kire also encouraged the special children mentioning that they are no different from the rest of the children. Assuring to provide assistance and help if need be, Dr. Kire appealed to the children and parents to approach the government and highlight their problems.
