Jakhama, March 17 (MExN): The Department of English at St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, celebrated its 9th Theatre Day on March 16 in the college Indoor Stadium under the theme ,“Amore e Tragedia” (Love and Tragedy).
James HK, Head of the Department of English, declared the day officially open and encouraged the students to immerse themselves in the world of fantasy through the performances of the plays.
He further articulated that the main objective of the event was to celebrate the artistic spirit of the students by showcasing their talents and skills.
James also noted that the event provides an opportunity for students to participate, develop, and excel in performing arts, while also helping them gain confidence, specifically in public speaking and developing their oratory skills.
The Theatre Day competition kicked off with eight melodramatic performances based on the theme. These included “Romeo & Juliet” by MA 4th Semester; “Othello” by MA 2nd Semester; “Mark Antony and Cleopatra” by BA 6th Semester ‘C’; “Mari” by BA 6th Semester ‘D’; “Mehoviu & Morusa” by BA 4th Semester ‘C’; “Jina & Etiben” by BA 4th Semester ‘D’; “The Great Gatsby” by BA 2nd Semester ‘C’; and “Tristan & Isolde” by BA 2nd Semester ‘D’.
A special performance was staged by Chenji and Pencil and Compass (PAC), followed by the declaration of results by Khriethovizo Sale, Assistant Professor in the Department of English.
The performance of “Mark Antony and Cleopatra” by BA 6th Semester ‘C’ was declared the best, while the second and third positions were secured by BA 2nd Semester ‘C’ and BA 4th Semester ‘D’ respectively for “The Great Gatsby” and “Jina & Etiben.”
Lichungse was awarded the title of Best Actor, and Votsolü Tunyi received the title of Best Actress.
