The department took the initiative to inculcate an interest in the subject and also to acquaint the students with some of the historical places in Guwahati.
The study tour began with a visit to the Assam State Museum, also known as the Rajyik State Museum. The museum is renowned for its archives demonstrating the rich culture, ancient history and modern history of North-East India.

The Assam State Zoo, known as a wildlife paradise is located in the densely vegetated forest area called the Hengrabari Forest Area.
The Dighali Pukhuri pond, now a tourist destination, is a manmade pond famous for boating. The pond carries a significant importance in the history of Assam and is said to have been used by the Ahoms as a naval yard. The pond also finds its mention in the great epic Mahabharata.
