SJHSS Tuensang annual sports meet commences

The opening ceremony of the annual sports meet of St John’s Higher Secondary School (SJHSS) Tuensang was held today on the school campus in the presence of Colonel Neelesh Bhardwaj, Commanding Officer of 29 Assam Rifles Tuensang; Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, IPS, Superintendent of Police; and NY Choba, President of Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), alongside members of the school board, teachers, and students.

After a welcome address and presentation by SJHSS Principal Rev Father Sivi George, the school flag was hoisted by the guests, accompanied by the rendition of the school anthem, "Come on Comrades, Come Along." 

CKS President Choba lit the ‘Olympic torch’ symbolising the spirit of the games and then it was relayed amongst four runners before being finally ignited, marking the official start of the event. 

The students took their oath for the meet under the guidance of their teacher, Takum. Addressing the gathering, SP Tuensang Kandpal emphasised the pressing issue of drug abuse among the youth, urging them to steer clear of such detrimental habits. F
ollowing an inspection of the parade by the special guests and others, five parade contingents marched out to the tunes of the bagpipe band of 29 Assam Rifles. 

In his address, the special guest Col Bhardwaj highlighted the natural sporting prowess of the Nagas and officially inaugurated the sports meet by kicking off a football. A drill display was performed by a large contingent of class six students at the inaugural.
The annual sports meet, featuring competitions in various sports disciplines such as football, basketball, volleyball, frog jump race, and athletics, will culminate on March 27.
