SJU Dimapur conducts exposure cum field trip

Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): The Department of Social Work, St Joseph University, Dimapur organized a one-day exposure visit cum field trip for the Master of Arts in Rural Development, on August 30, to Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema.
The underlying objective was to make students acquaint themselves with the provision, programmes, policies, trainings available at the institute for the welfare of the rural poor, informed a press release issued by Meijianthaipou Ruangmei (Francis) Assistant Professor, Programme Coordinator, Department of Social Work SJU.
It stated that Dr I Moasosang, Assistant Horticulture Specialist, CIH, graced the occasions and spoke briefly on the history of CIH and stated that trainings are given based on the needs of the farmers. He spoke about the trainings and courses which are availed at free of cost for the unemployed youths in both short and long terms. Moanungsang also focused on areas such as gardening, projected cultivations, post harvest management, processing and value addition, production and supply of high yielding variety seeds and demonstration of technologies for production in the region.
In capsule the institute organizes organic farming, demonstration on and off farm, and exposure visit to create interest among the rural poor, Dr. I Moasosang added. He said that those trainings were given because farmers in the regions are ill-equipped with the modern technology based agriculture tools, techniques and methods.
Along with Marina, Senior Technical Specialist, and Anjani Kumar Singh Horticulture Specialist, the students visited the various production units and sites such grafting citrus trees, guava, mushroom cultivation and vermicompost and were explicitly explained about the methods and the procedures of the plantation, growth and cultivation. The visit was beneficial for the students and it was worth mentioning that rural sections of people should come and attend the training conducted at the Institute, the release said.
