CHÜMOUKEDIMA, FEBRUARY 28 (MExN): The Department of Botany and the Research Forum at St Joseph University, in collaboration with the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), organized a special lecture focused on innovation development in Ayurveda.
The event, titled The Process of Innovation Development, Technology Readiness Level (TRL); Commercialization of Lab Technologies & Tech-Transfer in Ayurveda, aimed to provide an overview of technological advancements, research commercialization, and technology transfer in the field of Ayurveda.
The guest speaker for the event, Dr Vilas Gangurde, Research Officer (Ayurveda) and In-Charge at the Regional Ayurveda Research Centre (RARC) in Dimapur, under the Ministry of AYUSH discussed important terms such as Health Information Technology, Digital Natives, and Digital Immigrants and explored the concept of innovation. He outlined the stages involved in innovation development, emphasizing the importance of various types of innovation in scientific progress.
A key segment of the lecture focused on the commercialization of research, with Dr Gangurde detailing strategies for transferring laboratory research into practical applications. He also discussed the differences between research projects and technology projects, noting the distinct objectives and potential outcomes of each.
Dr Gangurde provided an overview of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and its policies on technology commercialization, citing the example of AYUSH 64 as a successful product resulting from the commercialization process. He also highlighted the patents filed by CCRAS, underscoring the potential of Ayurvedic research to contribute to healthcare solutions.
Urging students to think beyond textbook learning and focus on transforming their ideas into tangible, marketable products, he emphasized the importance of creativity and innovation in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications, encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset among the audience.
