SJU hosts webinar on archaeology of Mimi Caves

Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): St Joseph University (SJU), Department of History conducted a webinar on ‘archaeology of the Mimi Caves and the adjoining regions of the Naga Hills Ophiolite, Nagaland’ with Prof Dr Tiatoshi Jamir, HoD, Department of History and Archaeology, Nagaland University as the speaker on July 25. 

SJU in a press release stated that Prof Dr Tiatoshi elaborated meticulously about his ongoing research activities carried out at Mimi caves in Kiphire district and other adjoining areas of Nagaland. 

The archaeological remains found at this site include stone tools, charred remains of fish, deer, frogs, and remains of human fossils that showed evidence of hunting- gathering communities. Evidence of stone tools found in Mimi was also not well polished and was rough when compared to their counterparts in the Khasi Hills. However, he said that research is still going on in these areas so as to bring to light more information with regard to their subsistence patterns and about the past history. 

He also talked about the importance of stratigraphy of the site, as it provides the basic rules by which material remains found at periodic events can be put into sequence and archaeological remains can be accurately recorded.

The webinar was hosted by Tafi Trakha (PG 2nd Semester), invocation by Diethoselhou Felix (PG 2nd semester).

Welcome note was given by the organizing secretary K Khekato Zhimo Asst Prof Department of History. Discussion hour was conducted by Kevino Krose, Asst Prof, SJU where the doubts were cleared by the speaker. Mhonlumi Tungoe Asst Prof, SJU gave the concluding remarks and it concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr Avinuo Chupuo, HoD Department of History, SJU.
