Chümoukedima, August 12 (MExN): The Department of Sociology at St. Joseph University (SJU) organised a "Motivational Talk for Start-ups" on August 12 at the university auditorium to encourage students to explore entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-employment as viable career paths.
The session was chaired by Vizolenuo Phewhuo, a third-semester M.A. student in the Department of Sociology. Delivering the welcome address, Associate Professor Dr Elonbeni Ngullie highlighted the critical need for developing an entrepreneurial mindset among students in the modern job market.
Resource person Kiyelu T Yeptho, Functional Manager at the District Industries Centre (DIC), Dimapur, delivered a talk explaining the fundamentals of start-ups and the broader role of entrepreneurship in job creation and regional economic growth. He encouraged the student community to identify local market gaps, nurture innovative ideas, and look toward self-employment as a meaningful career choice.
The event saw participation from around 150 undergraduate and postgraduate students. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, where students sought guidance on various practical aspects of launching start-ups and navigating entrepreneurial opportunities.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Professor Dr Hare Krishna Doley and a benediction by Lizavi Yeptho, a third-semester B.A. student.
