Dimapur, February 11 (MExN): Taking into account the alarming rate of HIV and AIDS positive cases in Nagaland, particularly in Dimapur district, St Joseph University (SJU) Red Ribbon Club initiated an awareness programme under the theme ‘spread the awareness, end the stigma’ on February 10.
“As youth constitutes maximum percentage of infected cases and over 95% of HIV & AIDS cases are caused through unprotected sexual channel,” SJU in a press release said the awareness programme was organized with an aim to create positive awareness on the minds of the youngsters.
Mecievinuo, District Program Officer under District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, Dimapur, was the resource person. She was able to cover many crucial areas in connection to HIV & AIDS such as the causes, status, consequences, stigma and the challenges ahead in dealing with the disease. She presented an informative PPT including facts and figures about the prevailing HIV & AIDS status in the state.
Besides the Red Ribbon Club members of SJU, the programme was attended by many students of the university.
