Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): The 17th batch of Skill Development Training for unemployed youth of Nagaland was inaugurated on May 10 at Don Bosco Tech, AIDA centre, by Parliamentary Secretary for Skill Development, Mholunmo Kikon.
According to a press release, Kikon emphasised on the importance of acquiring skills besides the academic qualification. “Academic qualification alone cannot fetch a job for you in the industry. At the end of the day, what counts is the skills that one has”, he reiterated.
Questioning the general notion that government job with less salary gives one better security than jobs in private sector with better salary and other incentives, Kikon called for a change in mindset and stated, “It is time to move ahead and venture into private sector for jobs.”
Stressing on the importance of skills, Kikon maintained, “In order eradicate unemployment problems in the state we should encourage skill training so that anti social activities can be reduced. To become independent one has to acquire skills and build a career in private sector instead of depending only on government for job.”
Kikon acknowledged the contribution of Don Bosco Tech in the arena of skill training in the state and also expressed appreciation at parents letting their wards take skill training. “You, parents are broad minded and courageous people. You took the right decision when decided to let your children take the skill training,” Kikon remarked.
Fr. Joshua, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, affirmed the changes in the trainees within one month of the training. He mentioned that psychologists advocate 60 days of rigorous training to change a habit. “Likewise this training will help each individual trainee to do well in industry and compete with one another,” he opined.
Amos Ekka, State Coordinator, gave a brief report on Don Bosco Tech’s activities across the country. He said till date, Don Bosco Tech in Nagaland has trained over 3500 unemployed rural youth in hospitality sector in domains such as beauty and wellness, food and beverage services, housekeeping and ISMO.
