Skill training on organic farming for youths held in Tuensang

Tuensang, November 12 (MExN): A week-long Skill Training of Rural Youths (STRY) on the theme, Organic Farming with special emphasis on vermi-compost production and kitchen gardening is being organised in Tuensang at KVK conference hall.

According to a report by Course Director of STRY, Longma Yanger Pongen, the training is being conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tuensang in collaboration with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) and sponsored by National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad. It began on November 7 and will conclude on 13. 

He mentioned that youths ranging from 19 to 33 years were taking part in the programme which was focused on widening the mindset of the youths especially those from non-agriculture background. They would be receiving vermin-beds and winter vegetable seeds towards promoting organic farming.

The course director added, the various topic covered were on organic farming, vermin-compost making, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), kitchen gardening, financial management, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), Marketing of produce etc. 

Resource persons involved for the STRY programme were Samual Sangtam ACTO (Agronomy), K Michael Pienyu ACTO (Plant Protection), Dr Temjennungsang ACTO (Animal Science), Dr Watisenla Imsong SRF, NICRA, Yanger I Kichu FM and Hongsangsonla Chang, Area coordinator livelihood NRLM, Tuensang.
