Skill upgradation on land based economic activities

KOHIMA, june 1 (MExN): The State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Nagaland, Kohima has successfully conducted a training course for the rural youths on “Skill upgradation on land-based economic activities” with participants from Kohima and Chiephobozou blocks.

35 rural youths turned up at the training. The resource persons were from SIRD, Forest, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Horticulture, Land Resources departments etc.

The participants were greatly benefited through class –room lecture, practical sessions, demonstration and field visits to Rusoma village where orange farming is in progress. Method of preparation of Bokashi manure was also demonstrated by land resources department, a release received here informed today.

The course director was Kiyasetuo Vizo, senior lecturer, SIRD. This programme was fully sponsored by North East Council, Shillong as part of the “Year of Farmers.” 

The 2nd phase of training for rural youths on skill development on information technology, also got underway with the participation of 30 rural youths.

The programme focuses on the rural educated un-employed to develop their skill in information technology for self-employment and also to utilize their services in rural areas in the field of computer technology. The course is run by computer experts from SIRD, Nagaland and District Computer Centre, Kohima.

Further, SIRD in collaboration with National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad will also conduct a training course for micro level development on Geographic Information System (GIS).

The GIS is one of the latest tool and strategy for development and information which will be very beneficial to the planning and implementing officers, said Deputy Director Velu-o Shijo.

The one week training course will commence from June 19 till the 24th at SIRD, Nagaland with all allied departments.

Meanwhile, SIRD has also taken up a research work on “Comparative Study on Panchayat Raj and VDBs/VCs of West Bengal and Nagaland” which has already been completed and published.
