Sümi Community Naga United Village celebrates Ahuna festival

Chümoukedima, November 15 (MExN): The Sümi Community Naga United Village, Chümoukedima celebrated Ahuna festival at the Church compound on November 14. 

In a press release, Kakihe Zhimo, Chairman, Sümi Community Naga United Village stated that speaking on the significance of Ahuna festival, Mughaho Kiho, Music Director said “during the forefathers, Ahuna festival was celebrated during the month of November on different days depending on when the harvest is completely collected and stored.”

“After the modernization took place and started living under the Government, the present generation decided to celebrate Ahuna festival together on November 14 every year,” he stated. 

Kiho further highlited that ‘Ahuna Balu’ (newly harvested Rice cooked in bamboo stem) is the first piece of meal after the harvest. “This festival was celebrated to honour the year long harvest and blessings for the next year’s cultivation. After performing the rituals, ‘Ahuna Balu’ (Newly harvested Rice cooked in bamboo stem) was tested as the first piece of meal. The present generation after converting to Christianity, the Ahuna fest is served with varieties of food items for all who attended the programme,” he stated.

The programme was chaired by Khuvito Achumi and Khukivi Zhimo. Khehoyi Assumi, Pastor invoked God’s blessing with welcome speech by Kakihe Zhimo, Chairman Sümi Community Naga United Village. The women folk presented Thishele (women Folk song) and the men group presented Lejole (men folk song). Vinoto Zhimo presented a special song and vote of thanks was delivered by Ghokivi Zhimo Secretary Sümi Community Naga United Village. Khegholi Zhimo, women pastor pronounced the benediction.
