Sümi Hoho calls for free & fair elections

Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): The Sümi Hoho and its frontal organisations have affirmed its commitment towards the conduct of free and fair elections, during a consultative meeting on January 26.

In this connection, it called on the Sümi civil society organisations and the Churches to continue propagating ‘Clean Election’ and ensure free and fair election, during the meeting.

According to a press release received here on Sunday, the call was made along with other resolutions on issues related to the upcoming State Assembly elections in Nagaland.

While resolving to strictly prohibit the opening of camps and messes so as to avoid unwanted situations and maintain calm, it entrusted the Kükami (GBs), village councils, and colony councils to implement the resolution and ensure its adherence.

Among others, it also appealed to the law enforcing agencies to intensify the checking of flow of intoxicating substances into the district; monitor the sale of such substances and stringently penalise defaulters as per the law so as to maintain ‘desirable’ election environment.

It also called upon the CSOs, village and colony councils, and elders to fully cooperate with the law enforcing agencies and election officials for the smooth conduct of free and fair elections.
