Dimapur, April 2 (MExN): The two batches of a four-day pedagogical training programme for Sümi language teachers, organised by the Academic Council of the Sümi Literature Board, concluded on April 2.
The programme, titled “Sütsa Shikükami Ghenguno Atsala Bidi Shiküka Hila Qokiphe”, commenced on March 25 and was hosted at Livingstone Foundation International in Dimapur.
The training was organised primarily for Sümi language teachers in view of the introduction of a new syllabus across seven Sütsa Academies under the Sümi Literature Board. Teachers from government and private schools, along with Diploma in Sütsa (Sümi Language) holders who recently qualified the Sütsa Proficiency Test (SPT), also participated.
Each batch comprised 45 participants, and the training was conducted in two batches to ensure effectiveness and provide hands-on pedagogical experience.
The programme aimed to equip teachers with essential pedagogical skills, linguistic knowledge and cultural insights required for effective teaching of the Sütsa curriculum.
It brought together experienced scholars, language experts, educators and traditional knowledge keepers, who provided inputs on language teaching methodologies, indigenous knowledge systems, cultural traditions and research skills relevant to Sümi studies.
Through lectures, discussions and practical sessions, participants gained insights into the structure of the Sümi language, oral traditions, migration histories, customary institutions and the cultural heritage of the Sümi people.
The Academic Council of the Sümi Literature Board expressed gratitude to all resource persons for their contributions and acknowledged the support of Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema and his family for hosting the programme. It also appreciated his exhortation to participants during the inaugural session.
