An adage says you cannot judge a book by its cover but can you surmise some traits of your acquaintances through a simple SMS sent on Easter Sunday?
Maybe or maybe not but an Easter greetings SMS “I have no more poetry left in me but here’s wishing ur career, love, life n family, n kindness will rise under the wings n blessings of the risen Lord” sent Easter Sunday afternoon to a cross section of people including politicians, NGO leaders, government officials, journalists, members of Naga political groups and common citizens, drew a variety of replies.
Of the 100-odd SMSs sent, seven replies came within 10 minutes of sending the SMSs, which included four from the media fraternity and one each from the entrepreneurs and NGOs and a private citizen.
An hour after sending the SMS, 20 responded to the Easter greetings but none came from the politicians till the time of filing this report: understandable given their tight schedules and engagements.
But does the immediacy of response by fellow journalist, NGOs and private citizens indicate that they are more courteous or “alive” to the everyday pains and small pleasures of life and, perhaps, in the next life too.
“I asked Jesus hw mch do u luv me? ‘This much’ He answered. Then He stretched out His arms and died. So let us make GOD number ONE in our life”, read a message sent by a happy-go-lucky old time friend.
Another message from a former journalist-colleague read, “Poetry would not have been dead if you are here with me now.”
Interestingly a former Naga national worker turned Congress party sympathiser responded, “NaMo (Modi) should lift Christian holiday good Friday in his state otherwise curse for sure.”
“Behold! He has risen! He’s no more in the grave! He’s risen so that we can also rise with Him. ‘Happy Resurrection Day’”, a kilonser of a Naga political group SMS back.
“Thanks for the Easter greetings...The Lord may not come in the form or a beggar but don a new avatar. So let us all be prepared!”, the last of the messages read.
