DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 14 (MExN): The ruling Naga People Front (NPF) has continued to question the manner in which UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, “considered as one of the most powerful and influential women in the world”, could indeed waste her time in addressing the Naga people by making false allegations about tourism projects, of which “she either got her facts wrong or she was misled by the Congress leaders of Nagaland”.
A press note issued by the NPF Press and Media Bureau has pointed out that during her address at Congress Party election rallies at Dimapur on 7th February, 2013, Sonia Gandhi had made several allegations against the ruling DAN Government of Nagaland. One of them was that Rs. 89 crores transferred by the Centre for development of tourism in the State has “vanished without any result”.
According to the NPF, most of the amount of Rs 89 Crores sanctioned by the Government of India has been received by the State Government in several installments during the four years between 2006-07 and 2009-10. “All of them have been judiciously utilized for creation of tourism infrastructure and facilities all over the State and most of them have been completed”, claimed the NPF.
It was pointed out that a total of 28 projects have been taken up in different parts of the State out of which only three projects are yet to be completed. An amount of Rs. 4.63 crore is yet to be released by the government of India.
According to the information released by the NPF, some of the projects which have been completed through this fund are as follows:-Integrated circuit development at Zunheboto, Tuensang, Kiphire, Wokha, Nuiland, Pughuboto, Tseminyu and Asukhuto; development of Tourist Travel Destination in three districts of Kohima, Zunheboto and Mokokchung; development of eco and adventure tourism; development of rural tourism in six destinations in four districts Mokokchung, Wokha, Phek and Zunheboto; central assistance for setting up of Hotel Management Institute at Dimapur; integrated circuit development connecting seven destinations across four districts; upgradation and improvement of tourist village roads; establishment of adventure and eco-tourism trails/footpaths and development of tourist travel circuit in backward areas including the districts of Longleng, Peren and Mon.
The above facts according to the NPF once again point to the fact that Sonia Gandhi got all her information all wrong and exposed the truth that her speech contained false and baseless allegations.
The NPF also stated that Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Nagaland for election campaign resulted in more embarrassment for the Congress, instead of winning the hearts and minds of the Naga people. “The intellect of the Naga people cannot be undermined by anybody”, it stated.
