April 7 (IANS): Actor Sonu Sood, who became an overnight hero for his social work during coronavirus induced lockdown, today took the vaccine for COVID-19 prevention at a hospital in Amritsar, Punjab. The actor has also launched today a drive for free vaccine across India.

Named Sanjeevani: A Shot of Life, the drive aims to raise awareness among the people, and encourage them to get vaccinated. Speaking about the same, Sonu Sood said in a statement that he started the drive because it is very important to spread awareness among people who are still thinking whether they should be vaccinated or not. Sonu also urged that family members should push the elder members, who are eligible to get vaccinated, to get it immediately. This will help them to survive the times we all are facing currently, the actor said.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Sonu shared a picture of himself taking the shot and wrote, “Got my vaccine today and now it's time to get whole of my country vaccinated. Started the biggest vaccination drive "Sanjeevani" which will bring awareness and get our people vaccinated.”

Earlier, taking to his Instagram handle, Sonu shared a poster and wrote, “I am proud to be associated with India's biggest vaccination drive against Covid19, as part of Network18 Group #Sanjeevani – A Shot Of Life, a CSR initiative by @federalbanklimited. On #WorldHealthDay we launch this great movement for India's immunity. Have you taken the COVID19 vaccine yet? #LagayaKya

Sonu informed that the drive will be carried out in different states, while in every district and many villages in Punjab. The actor said that people are less aware about the vaccine and are still in double mind whether they should get vaccinated or not. “That’s why I wanted to get vaccinated in front of everyone and send the message that don’t think twice,” the actor said. During the drive, camps will be organised for people to be vaccinated.
