Ever watched the musicals Cats or Sound of Music? Hope Centre For Excellence gave an akin performance through the musical evening at IMC Hall, Dimapur. “Colours of Spring” was an event orchestrated by the students and teachers of the Centre, and was alight with much grandeur.
The program started with a debut performance by String Orchestra, formed in October 2012, conducted by Sandip Halder. The students who took the stage perfectly composed in their stature played the instruments with ease and their fingers moved without an inch of strain on the keys.
The event’s opening was followed by solo performances to renditions to ballet dances. Some of the performances were: a French love song by Nise Meruno, duets by Somnat (Cello) and Luthunglo (Piano), song by Kechanngulie Zumvu (vocal student of Nise). Among these were 13 year old Sophia Mozhui (violinist) and 15 year old Ruguoser Liegise (pianist who completed 8 Grade at the age of 13). They were all students of music in the making, and both boys and girls alike gracefully exited the stage just as they had entered.
The music ranged from the likes of Beethoven to up-beat tempo of drum solo and ensembles. Every beat was effortlessly played, every note sung with ease, and every ballet step danced artistically. Music that would create climax to the ones that would make one dreamy, they had it all. The ballerinas were ‘supple, strong and well-coordinated’ and had the crowd applaud in awe and were seen swaying with the tune. The mercury in the hall rose as the drum beats caught the ear of the younger crowd and the double pedal was received with even greater applauses.
Keeping up with the name, the Centre showcased their strive for excellence through the impeccable performances and it was no doubt that the students had excellent mentors to create music prodigies. The parents were acknowledged and thanked for their support before the teachers sang their rendition of one of Elvis Presley’s greatest hits, Can’t help falling in love with you.
