Sovima T20 Cricket Gold Cup begins

SCC pummels RUCC by 131 runs in inaugural match   Morung Express News Dimapur | October 15   Sovima T20 Cricket Gold Cup got off to a rollicking start Saturday evening in a floodlit Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Dimapur. Colour jerseys, a lush outfield, a well laid strip, artificial lighting and fast-paced T20 game made for a picture perfect opening in a region relatively alien to after dusk sports events.   A total of 16 teams, 7 from outside Nagaland, will battle it out over 11 days for the commemorative Sovima T20 Cricket Gold Cup organised to mark the completion of 50 years of the establishment of Sovima village.   Host Sovima Cricket Club (SCC) took on Razzle United Cricket Club (RUCC), Tuensang at the inaugural match. Winning the toss and electing to bat, SCC did justice to the decision posting a formidable 174 on board riding on a sparkling century from Sedezhalie. He was declared the Man of the Match for his knock of 101 from 114 balls.   The chase by RUCC was a disaster bowled out for a paltry 53 runs and SCC winning the match by a huge margin of 131 runs. Tamid destroyed the RUCC batting lineup finishing with a 4-wicket haul in 4 overs.   Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation & Flood Control, N. Jacob Zhimomi, in his address at the opening ceremony urged the youth to take to sports in all commitment as it can be a launch pad to a fruitful life. While stating that the state Sports department is there to help, he reminded of the visit by BCCI chief Anurag Thakur earlier this year, who he added would have certainly noticed the enthusiasm of the youth here towards sports.   October 16 Matches Frontiers CC VS Thau Sports Academy  8:15 AM BMS Darbar Delhi VS Kings Bird Tiger Delhi 11:30 AM Blue Star VS Victoria CC  2:45 pm
