
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 5 (MExN): The Special Branch of Dimapur police captured three hardcore criminals with a long list of involvement in crime, including murder and kidnap, in the police record. The three, identified as Abdul Munnan (26 years), Kubir-uddin (17 years) and Vikash Barman (20 years) were nabbed from the Dimapur Railway Station on Saturday, August 5 in connection with a case of abduction, which culminated in murder. The former two hail from Karimganj, Assam and the latter from Cooch Behar, West Bengal. The trio were also reported to have engages in petty jobs as labourers in Dimapur when off crime.
The partners in crime, alongwith two other accomplices abducted a 15-year old boy from Dimapur on July 28 last. The abductors’ then ransomed the boy’s parents for his release. The victim, identified as Irfan Mansuri, was a class 8 student of Blooming Bud Montessori, Dimapur.
The boy’s father approached the Special Branch for help on August 2, stated Dy. SP (Special Branch), Isreael G Xuivi. But in an ugly turn of event, the boy was murdered by the captors on the night August 3.
The abductors also murdered a second boy, initially thought to have been abducted together with the former, but later suspected to have aided the abductors. The two boys’ are said to have been friends as well as neighbours.
According to Dy.SP Xuivi, the second boy returned home for ‘Raksha Bandhan’, after he was reported missing around the time the first boy went missing, rousing suspicion of his involvement. The abductors initially demanded Rs. 6 lakh which was scaled down to Rs. 50, 000. The final amount to be paid was negotiated on the night of August 3 while the boy’s father was directed to drop off the money at the Dimapur Railway Station, setting the time at 4:30 pm.
The abductors’ also allowed the boy in captivity to speak with his father. It was to be the last. Based on the input, under cover policemen were deployed, who were able to nab the one identified as Barman. The breakthrough, ultimately led to the capture of the other two. A further two persons are absconding.
During the entire duration of the abduction, the kidnappers kept on changing location, hopping from train to train, mostly between Dimapur and Lumding, making it difficult for investigators trace their calls.
According to the available records, the three were involved in many criminal activities in Dimapur and Assam while also serving prison time for crimes of various natures, said Xuivi. Their tryst with crime also include contract killing.
The bodies of the two boys were yet to be retrieved till Sunday evening. They were killed and the bodies disposed somewhere near Lumding.
