Noklak, September 19 (MExN): A special programme for senior citizens, the first of its kind in the district, was held in Noklak on September 16, organised by the Shekinah Christian Foundation in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Nagaland.
The programme, held at Noklak Town Baptist Church, was chaired by Muthiam, a member of the Shekinah Christian Foundation, stated a DIPR report.
Speaking on behalf of the District Administration Noklak, EAC Headquarters Noklak Apuloka Yepthomi, NCS, said many people wish to live a long life, but only a few are blessed to reach the stage of senior citizenship.
Describing senior citizens as people blessed and loved by God, Yepthomi highlighted their role as a source of guidance and wisdom for younger generations.
He said that despite the many digital advancements in today's world, society should not forget the importance of caring for and respecting senior citizens, and called upon the younger generation to honour them, provide them healthy food and create an environment that brings happiness and dignity to their lives.
Col Ghanender Pratap Singh, Commandant, 32 Assam Rifles, Noklak, in his words of motivation, highlighted the contribution of senior citizens, stating that their contribution extends beyond their homes and society to the nation and the world, and is a valuable lesson for living a peaceful and better life.
Dr Victor, CMO Noklak, spoke on the importance of following healthy habits to maintain a healthy life in old age.
The programme also featured fun and healthy games conducted by Atula Thsanso, a walkathon from Public Ground to Noklak Town Baptist Church, and a free medical camp conducted for the senior citizens by the 32 Assam Rifles.
