SPHSS wins Inter School Easter Sing Out 2011

Students of St. Paul Higher Secondary School receives the winning trophy of the Inter School Easter Sing Out 2011 a choir competition held for school students on May 1.
 
Dimapur, May 2 (MExN): The Salesian Cooperators, Dimapur organized an Inter School Easter Sing Out 2011 a choir competition for school students on May 1 in the Holy Cross School Auditorium. Altogether five schools participated namely, St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, St. Clares’ Higher Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School. The judges were Thejaser Khate, Ezono Kithan John, Vizho Thakro, Aroko Nagi who are all experts and renowned in the field of music.
The hymn for the competition was “Hark Ten Thousand Harps” The competition was held with the objective of creating a platform for young students to showcase their talents in choral singing. The winners of the competition were the participants of St. Paul Higher Secondary School, second prize went to St. Josephs School while the third was bagged by Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, informed a press release received here.
P. F. Zeliang IPS graced the occasion as the chief guest and Fr. T C Joseph sdb, Principal, Salesian College was the guest of honour. The guest of honour affirmed the words of Pope Benedict XVI where politics has failed, music has succeeded. The chief guest appreciated the works of the Salesian Cooperators especially in organizing such events for the upcoming generation. He exhorted the students by reminding them that student life is the best time in ones life and we should always take part in all co-curricular activities such as this whenever we get the opportunity. He also pointed out that in every competition there is a winner and a loser, but the loser should not be discouraged as there is always room for improvement and that it is the participation that counts.
The programme started with the opening prayer by Fr. Chako K, Parish Priest, Holy Cross, and the Provincial Coordinator Kaisa delivered the welcome speech. The mood for competition was set with the instrumental rendition by the Brothers of Salesian College and Master Kevin and Master Rowang Debburma of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School.
K D Mao, Manager PB of SBI exhorted the students on the many beneficial schemes the bank is offering and encouraged the students to focus on their studies to aim for higher achievements in life. The feedback of the judges was very encouraging as they appreciated the good singing especially by school students. They also gave important tips to improve on the singing. The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Maria Mahung.
