NEISSR hosts panel discussion on ‘Journey towards Peace’
Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): Spirituality is closely interlinked and connected with humanity. Dr. Wati Aier, Principal, Oriental Theological Seminary, said this today while speaking at a panel discussion organized by the North East Institute of Social Science & Research (NEISSR) on ‘Journey towards Peace’ at its Conference Hall here today.
“It is important to cultivate a humane sense of understanding towards others to develop our faith which will in turn enhance our spirituality,” he said, adding that spirituality is the foundation and the spark which will kindle peace building efforts.
Other panelists for today’s discussion were P Leonard, Principal City Law College, Dimapur and Liangsi Niumai, Director, CCERP. The panel discussion was moderated by Fr. Chacko Karithayil, Rector, Good Shepherd Seminary, Dimapur.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Restoring spirituality peace building in Nagaland,’ Dr. Wati Aier noted that people talk a lot but rarely put the talks into action.
P Leonard Aier spoke on the importance of individuals and the power that we all wield by being part of the society while deliberating on, ‘Political will power and Peace building in Nagaland’. “By the virtue of being a part of the society, we are all political players and the degeneration of social democracy cannot be blamed on anybody but us as citizens,” he said. “Everyone has will power. Society moves in cycles and to transform the society we must speak the truth,” he added.
This was informed in a press release on the event from NEISSR. Liangsi Niumai lamented that the ability of women to contribute to peace building is sometimes not considered. Peace building starts in the family and women as mothers have had great influence on how values of peaceful living are inculcated in children, she said. She opined that peace building is not about disarming weapons but also nurturing our children at the right time.
Presentation from the panelists was followed by a Q & A session The panel discussion was organized by the MSW trainees of Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies as a part of their forum activity. A short video documentary titled, ‘Nagaland: A quest for Peace’ was also screened during the programme. The programme was attended by students from five other colleges of Dimapur, the NEISSR informed.
