
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): Jalukie Town in Peren district witnessed a two-day sports event on October 15 and 16 under the theme “Sports for Votes,” as part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) Campaign 2024. The initiative aimed to raise electoral awareness among students, providing them with a platform to showcase their athletic talents while encouraging voter registration.
Day one of the event took place at the GHSS Ground, Jalukie Town, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) TL Kiusumong Tikhir attending as the special guest. Addressing the students, Tikhir emphasized the rights and privileges enshrined in the Indian Constitution, urging the youth to engage actively in electoral democracy as responsible citizens.
Assistant Election Officer (AEO) Aketo also highlighted the current status of the electoral roll in Peren district and shared the schedule for the upcoming Special Summary Revision 2024. He encouraged eligible students to register and participate in the electoral process.
The day’s activities featured a range of fun games, including tug of war, three-legged races, and sack races, open to both boys and girls. The excitement continued on the second day at Ball Park, Jalukie Town, where a Futsal tournament, the event’s most anticipated game, was held. Six teams each for boys and girls competed, demonstrating their passion and potential as rising athletes.
The closing ceremony saw a word of gratitude from AEO Aketo, followed by a prize distribution where winners received certificates, jerseys, and mementos. A total of 210 students from GHSS Jalukie and Barail Valley Higher Secondary School participated in the event.
The event was organized by the District Election Office, Peren, and the Nagaland Sports Association, under the aegis of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland.
