SRI Farm School to enhance food productivity

ATMA Chiephobozou block create awareness on farm school and Kisan Call Centre

Kohima, September 9 (MExN): ATMA Chiephobozou block, Kohima district launched System of Rice Intensification (SRI) Farm School in Nerhe Model village on September 4.

The main objective of setting up the farm school is to enable the farming community to adopt the new technology which has proved to be a success in several fields across the district. It also aims in establishing increased food production and hence achieving food security. 

Ruduokho Usou was appointed as the Farm School Teacher. During the launching program, Usou highlighted the experiences he gained from this method and he gave a brief account on the advantages he observed from practicing this method. He elaborated that he first learnt the procedure of SRI by attending a training conducted by SDAO Chiephobozou. In the first year he practiced SRI on a trial basis and to which he saw increase in production rate. He also said that one of the main advantages is reduced man days. 

“He is quite content with this method of cultivating paddy and he further encourages other fellow farmers to practice the same,” stated a press release from the ATMA Chiephobozou block, Kohima district. 

The ATMA team during the programme explained the concept of farm school and the roles and duties of the Farm School Teacher. The farmers were also informed about Kisan Call Centre (1800-180-1551) which is toll free and can be availed for any queries related to farming.
