Dimapur, June 3 (MExN): The Shanry Range Student Association (SRSA) has strongly condemned an armed clash between two groups of the NSCN-K, the Yung Aung and the Angmai-Mulatonu, that took place at Hoku village on May 28, terming it an “unprovoked attack” that has shattered the region’s long-standing peace.
According to Media Cell of SRSA, the incident occurred at approximately 6:00 am when cadres of the NSCN-K (YA) group allegedly attacked members of the NSCN (Ang Mai) group while they were engaged in official duties in the area. During the assault, Rajapeyu Sgt Kambey of Ranchi Village under the Tangshang Region suffered multiple gunshot wounds, reports said.
The student body expressed deep concern over the recurring nature of such violence despite repeated appeals from student bodies, NGOs and civil society organisations across the Shanry Range region. This marks the second such armed confrontation in the area, raising serious questions over civilian safety.
“This unfortunate incident has created fear and insecurity among peaceful citizens and disturbed the harmonious atmosphere that villagers had maintained for many years,” SRSA said in its statement. It added that such acts disrupt educational activities, violate human dignity, and cause psychological trauma among children, students and the wider community.
SRSA has earnestly appealed to both factions to exercise maximum restraint, cease all forms of armed confrontation, and resolve differences through peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding. It further called upon all concerned parties to respect the rights, dignity, and security of civilians and to work towards maintaining peace and stability in the region.
“The association firmly believes that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, and a commitment to the welfare of the people,” the SRSA added.
