Kapso Phom interacting with students about beekeeping and benefits of integrated farming.

Dimapur, March 21 (MExN): The Department of Environmental Science, Sao Chang College, Tuensang conducted a one-day field study trip to integrated farms at Lomching and Yaongyimchen Village, Longleng as a partial fulfillment of the syllabus on March 18. The trip was joined by BA and BSc 6th semester students with total participants of 202 students and 4 faculty members, according to a press release received here on Tuesday.
As per the release, the trip started with learning about bee-keeping and integrated farming with a briefing by Kapso Phom, a progressive farmer who owns an integrated farm at Lomching, Yaongyimchen. It was then followed with students touring to Yaongyimchen Village in order to learn about community participation in biodiversity conservation and for sustainable development.
Most of the innovative works in Yaongyimchen are being carried out under Community Development Society called Lemsachenlok Society which carries out activities towards shaping the future by protecting the environment and bringing about sustainable development. The organisation has received recognition from United Nation Environment Programme in November 2015 for its efforts towards conserving the Amur Falcon (Falco Amurensis), the release informed.
Highlighting the outcome of the study trip, the release stated that the students were exposed to new experiences about bee keeping and the importance of integrated farming. They were given the opportunity to learn about the importance of community participation in conserving of nature for future generation.
