St. Joseph’s College introduces Diploma in Counseling Psychology

Jakhama, August 10 (MExN): The Diploma in Counseling Psychology at St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), was inaugurated by Dr Zavise Rume, SCERT on August 10.

Speaking on ‘basic foundation of counseling as a profession,’ Dr Zavise said that counseling is gaining greater salience in the present times both from social, and employment perspectives.

“Though the need for counseling professionals is being increasingly felt, there is a dearth of professional support and experts who could lend a helping hand in promoting positive family processes and help individual family members in distress in a comprehensive way. As a result, there is a tremendous felt need for education and training in this area,” he stated.

Dr Zavise said that by developing the requisite knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills in the area of Counseling, this unique programme of study would help to train professional cadres in the field, equipping them for both wage-employment and self-employment, and thus fill the existing lacuna.

Principal, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Dr. S. Ousepparmbil addressed the students and encouraged them to attend this course on ‘Counseling Psychology’ for life. Fr. C. Joseph, Counselor and Coordinator of the Diploma Course in Counseling Psychology organized the event with the cooperation of the student body.

It is noted that this Diploma Course in Counseling Psychology is approved by UGC to St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) from 2019.
