
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 28 (MExN): The opening ceremony of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama College Week 2024 was held on October 28 at 9:30 AM at the college football ground. The theme for this year’s event is “Empowering Athletes, Inspiring Dreams.”
The program was anchored by Nzanthung Y. Ezung. The special guest, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhusto, MLA of Kohima Town, was received by the college management and the sports committee, followed by the hoisting of the flag. Dr. Sr. Ranit, Vice Principal of Academic Affairs, gave the invocation, and the college principal, Rev. Dr. Fr. George Angami, delivered the welcome address.
A musical performance titled “Rise” was presented by Elvina Khangshou, followed by the lighting of the torch. In his address, Dr. Rhusto emphasized the importance of participation over winning and encouraged students to overcome tribalism.
The oath-taking was led by Songayam Kasar, Games and Sports Secretary, after which the College Week was officially declared open by the special guest. The week will feature events including basketball, football, long jump, volleyball, table tennis, chess, arm wrestling, Naga wrestling, and cultural activities, concluding on November 1.
