Kohima, May 13 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, on Saturday stated that elections will be held as long as Naga people are under the Indian constitution.
The Chief Minister urged public leaders to stand above political rivalry and, without holding personal grudges, work hand in hand towards welfare of the people. He called upon the people to live peacefully with each other.
Dr. Liezietsu was speaking as the chief guest during the ‘Kerunyi’ festival of Kohima Village organised by the Kohima Village Council at the KVC hall here today. This was informed in a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office today.
The CMO also informed that this was Dr. Liezietsu’s maiden official visit to his native village after becoming the Chief Minister of Nagaland. Addressing the village leaders, stated the CMO, Dr. Liezietsu felt that it was “God’s plan” for him to become the Chief Minister and thanked the villagers for the support and help towards building a peaceful atmosphere.
The Chief Minister said that Kohima Village being the land owner of the state capital should be more co-operative and accommodative with any kind of developmental activity carried out by the State Government. He also added that being the land owner, the Kohima Village people should not create any hindrance as far as welfare programmes of the government are concerned but to contribute positively and facilitate them.
Dr. Liezietsu also thanked and appreciated people who had donated land for the upcoming Nagaland Medical College in Kohima. He requested land owners who are yet to donate their land to judiciously donate “for the welfare of our future generations.”
Earlier, Vilie-o Rutsa spoke on the significance of the Kerunyi festival. He stated that the festival is observed to prepare for the year-long cultivation cycle.
