Startup India Nagaland Yatra was flagged off by Chief Secretary Temjen Toy here today at Nagaland Civil Secretariat plaza.

After flagging off the Yatra, Temjen Toy, while briefing the media, said the main objective is to create awareness among young students on how to develop entrepreneurship with assistance and guidance from the central government; where the selected students will be incubated, nurtured and encouraged to start their own enterprises.

He talked about the high potential of Nagaland’s youth and stated that they are intelligent and qualified enough to set up enterprises.

However, the State being a ‘salaried economy’ with no alternative sources of income to rely on, “our youth solely depend on government jobs,” he acknowledged.

“Though we are blessed with talents, we don't have proper guidance and assistance,” he said, expressing optimism that the ongoing Yatra will boost the young and upcoming generation to set up their own enterprises.

Lithrongla G. Chishi, Commissioner and Secretary for Industries and Commerce, said that the intention of this programme is to pick up students at the grassroots. She added that the selected students will be incubated by institutes in order to bring them at par with the rest of the country.

Chishi informed that a Startup Policy for Nagaland has been approved by the State cabinet.

It will be laid at the forthcoming session of Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Amit Sharma, Project Head Startup India, said the Startup corpus of Rs 10,000 crores have been announced for Startup India action plan for the whole country.
