
Kohima, November 16 (MExN): State Child Protection Society Nagaland (SCPS-N) today held State Consultative Meeting 2012 at Conclave Conference Hall, Kohima. Officials of District Child Protection Units (DCPUs) from all the eleven districts in Nagaland participated in the meeting. In this meeting, district cases on ‘Children in Need of Care & Protection and Juvenile in Conflict with Law’ were reviewed and discussed.
T Kiheto Sema, Secretary to Social Welfare Department Nagaland and Chairman to SCPS-N, raised concern over other Government Departments, District Officials, NGOs as well as the general public’s ignorance about the existence of Integrated Child Protection Scheme in Nagaland. Therefore, he stressed on the importance on sensitisation and awareness generation about the scheme, by the DCPU team at the district level so that they will be able to provide better delivery of services. Speaking on the trend of legal adoption in Nagaland, Vesulu Chuzho, Programme Manager, State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) emphasised on legal adoption. Chuzho said that we are not here to fight against the customary law and practices but ethical adoption and legal adoption will help protect the interest of the child that is being adopted and the family that is adopting. In the meeting, a lot of emphasis on the importance of the proper functioning of Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee was made.
